Pedro Martinez Clemente

Finca La Bugambilla has been a coffee plantation since 1920. Over time, the plot was inherited by Don Pedro Martínez Clemente when he was 18 years old. Later, Pedro married Doña Fidela Pérez, and together they began working on the property. This family’s dedication truly shows in estate-grown coffee, especially those unique Mexico microlot coffee lots produced in Oaxaca.

Don Pedro was born, raised, and married in Santa Cruz Ozolotepec. He mentions that his grandparents and parents are also originally from the same town. He recalls that since childhood, his grandparents used to take him to the coffee plantation, where he participated in tasks such as weeding, planting, harvesting, and processing. Additionally, the traditions connected to producing microlot coffee in Oaxaca, Mexico have been passed down through generations.

The farm´s continued productivity has been maintained through the renewal of coffee plants, which helps ensure a stable production. The producer also mentions that what makes his coffee unique is the effort, care, and passion he puts into improving as a coffee grower. Moreover, Pedro’s focus on sustainable practices further distinguishes his Mexico microlot coffee grown in Oaxaca.

Processing Information

For the coffee processing, once the cherries are harvested, they are depulped the following day (about 12 hours after picking). After depulping, the mucilage-covered coffee is left to ferment in a cement tank for up to 24 hours. Once it reaches the right point, the coffee is washed and then dried on the concrete patio of their home. The drying time may vary depending on weather conditions (from 3 to 6 days). For storage, jute bags are used and placed on wooden boards to prevent direct contact with the ground. Thus, maintaining quality standards is essential for Mexico microlot coffee from Oaxaca throughout every step.

Regional Information

The region belongs to the Zapotec culture. Only some of the people in the town spoke Zapotec. Today, only Spanish is spoken in the community. The predominant religion is Catholic, the town’s festival falls on the sixth Friday and on the day of the Holy Cross. Furthermore, traditions and cultural aspects contribute to the unique character of Oaxaca Mexico microlot coffee.
