Description
Costa Rica Tarrazu – Cerro Azul Microlot
Apple cider, spiced pear, honey, almond
This high-grown lot is produced by Unión de Cafetalero de San Isidro (shortened to Undecaf, somewhat misleadingly for English-speakers — this coffee is assuredly full-caf). The association was formed by about 150 producers in 1994. In 2007-08, nine of the producers collaborated on the building of a small micro mill called El Roble (“The Oak”), featuring a Penagos depulper, drying patios, and small warehouse, so as to better control the quality of their harvests. Undecaf is also active with many social projects in the San Isidro area, including restoring the town’s ambulance, building sidewalks, and collaborating on a project with UNA University to foster better relations between producers and coffee pickers.
